What is a non-custodial wallet?
A non-custodial wallet is one where you hold the keys, not a company. Nobody else can move your funds, freeze them, or lock you out. The trade-off is responsibility: you alone must keep your keys and password safe.
Custodial vs non-custodial, in one line
With a custodial service (like an exchange), a company holds your funds and you hold an IOU. With a non-custodial wallet, you hold the funds themselves The keys that control them are yours and only yours.
Why it matters for your fund
- No one can take your money Not Opusfund, not your CEO, not a failing company.
- No one can freeze it Your capital can't be locked inside someone else's platform.
- Withdrawals are yours alone Funds only ever move to wallets you've whitelisted.
The responsibility that comes with it
Self-custody has one rule: back up your keys and password, and never share them. Store the backup somewhere private, ideally offline. Anyone who has your keys has your money; anyone without them (including you) has nothing.
That responsibility is the price of real ownership, and it's why an Opusfund can honestly say your money never leaves your control.
